Ten bank holidays
Northern Ireland has the same eight bank holidays as England and Wales, plus St Patrick’s Day on 17 March and the Battle of the Boyne (Orangemen’s Day) on 12 July. That makes ten, the most of any part of the UK.
Substitute days
When a holiday falls on a weekend the next weekday is the bank holiday. 12 July 2026 is a Sunday, so the Battle of the Boyne holiday is Monday 13 July; your calendar shows the name on the 12th and the bank holiday on the 13th. Boxing Day 2026 moves to Monday 28 December, Christmas and Boxing Day 2027 to Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December, and New Year’s Day 2028 to Monday 3 January.
