New Zealand public holidays 2026 and 2027
Eleven national public holidays, with weekend holidays “Mondayised”, plus a regional anniversary day you add yourself.

National public holidays
New Year’s Day, the day after New Year’s Day, Waitangi Day (6 February), Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day (25 April), the King’s Birthday (first Monday in June), Matariki, Labour Day (fourth Monday in October), Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Matariki, the Māori New Year, has been a public holiday since 2022; its dates are set in law each year to a Friday in June or July: 10 July 2026 and 25 June 2027.
Mondayised holidays
When Waitangi Day or Anzac Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is a public holiday for people who do not normally work that weekend day; Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and the day after New Year’s Day move in the same way. The calendar shows the date itself and the Monday, marked “(Mondayised)”. In 2027 that gives Monday 4 January, Monday 8 February, Monday 26 April and Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December.
Regional anniversary days
Each region also has an anniversary day, such as Wellington Anniversary Day in January or Canterbury Anniversary Day in November. They are not included, because they differ by region and are sometimes observed on different dates by different employers; add yours as your own date.
