Public holidays in Ireland 2026 and 2027

Holidays shown: 2026, 2027. Dates checked against the official sources below on October 11, 2026. Make a calendar with these holidays.

The ten public holidays

New Year’s Day, St Brigid’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, Easter Monday, the May, June, August and October bank holidays (the first Monday of May, June and August and the last Monday of October), Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day. St Brigid’s Day, added in 2023, is the first Monday in February, unless 1 February is a Friday, when the holiday is on the 1st. In 2026 it is Monday 2 February; in 2027, 1 February is itself a Monday.

Good Friday is not a public holiday, although many businesses close. Add it as your own date if your calendar needs it.

Holidays on a weekend

Ireland has no substitute days. If a public holiday falls on a day you would not normally work, you are entitled to a paid day off within a month, an extra day of annual leave or an extra day’s pay instead; there is no automatic day off on the next working day. That is why Christmas Day 2027 (a Saturday) and St Stephen’s Day 2027 (a Sunday) appear only on their own dates.
